In Memorium – Alexander E. “Alex” Karkenny

7/22/1939 – 3/12/2018 Alexander E. Karkenny “Alex”, age 78, of Media, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018. Loving husband of Jo-Ann (nee Vandenburgh). Dear father of Scott (Bethany) and Chris (Gwendolyn) Karkenny. Also survived by his three granddaughters Olivia, Ashley and Blake; his brother Malko Karkenny (Jessie); sister Warday Scala (Vincent) and eight nieces and nephews. Alex was a Financial Advisor for 35 years retiring in 2003. He was a community-minded man volunteering his time to many organizations that were important to him. An early advocate of a local YMCA Alex was instrumental in establishing the Rocky Run YMCA with several other dedicated volunteers. He was a longtime member of the Media Rotary Club; he was also active with the Media Youth Center and City Team Ministries. Mr. Karkenny enjoyed summers spent with family in Ocean City N.J. He also had an interest in horses, specifically Thoroughbred Racers and was the proud owner of Smoke Glacken the 1997 Eclipse Award winning Champion Sprint Horse. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday March 20th from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Media Presbyterian Church, 30 E. Baltimore Ave, Media. Followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held privately at Media Cemetery.
