The Rotary Club of Media recently honored two students at Penncrest High School as Students of the Month for February. They are, center, Makayla Johnson and Samuel Kleiman. With them are Courtney Ballauer, Rotarian in charge of students of the month, and Media Rotary President James Meinel.
The Rotary Club of Media recently honored two students at Penncrest High School in the Rose Tree Media School District, for their outstanding academic work and community participation, by naming them their Students of the Month for February.
Makayla Johnson is an 11th grade student who is the varsity point guard in basketball, a volunteer at the Media Youth Center, a member of the NAACP, and a Vacation Bible School volunteer at Media Presbyterian Church. She has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll in every marking period, won the MVC Sportsmanship award and received an honorable mention in the national Spanish exam. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, the Science Honor Society and the Social Studies Honor Society.
Samuel Kleiman is a senior at Penncrest who plays tenor saxophone in the Wind Ensemble and the Marching
Band. He volunteers as a tutor for Ukrainian students, and also is an amateur astronomer and a cruciverbalist, one who constructs and/or solves crossword puzzles. Samuel is captain of the Penncrest Hi-Q team, treasurer of the National Honor Society and president of the Math National Honor Society He is a National Merit semi-finalist, an AP Scholar with distinction and has achieved the Academic Excellence Award in all three years at Penncrest. He plans to study astrophysics.
