The Rotary Foundation of Media recently held its live drawing at Margaret Kuo’s Kitchen at Granite Run. The raffle consisted of six prizes of outstanding and hard to get whiskies with Pappy Van Winkle 15-year-old bourbon as the Grand Prize! The club raised over $15,000 this year, selling out all 500 chances, auctioning of a one-year family membership to the Rocky Run Y and benefitting from several sponsorships.
Ryan Kavanagh, a Delco guy, was the winner of the sixth prize, E.H. Taylor and Weller’s bourbon; while Jim Wurster of Springfield winning the Yamazaki 100th year single malt 12 year old scotch; Midsummers Night Dram Rye whiskey, the fourth prize was won by Craig Zebrowski of Colorado; with Robert Fyfe, another local guy winning Blanton’s and Eagle Rare bourbon; The second prize, Glenfarclas 25 year old single malt Scotch was won by Tom Reimann of Morton who bought his ticket at the Springfield Y. And, the grand prize winner of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year old bourbon was Buck Vocelle of Florida, a member of the Rotary Whisk(e)y DRAM (Drinking Rotarians and Members) Fellowship.
Sixty people attended the live event, including the incoming Rotary District 7450 Governor, Francy Cross, along with members and friends of the Rotary Club of Media and other local clubs. In addition to the excellent meal, many of those attending won door prizes that included various whiskies, wine and gift baskets.
All proceeds from the raffle will be used for local and international community projects. This past year the Foundation has provided funds for an electrocardiogram for Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, the Media Food Bank; the Media Arts Council; museum passes for the Media-Upper Providence Free Library and others. Internationally it matched funds from the club and individual members to contribute to Shelter Box for Palestinian refugees and to support cleft lip/palate surgery through Rotoplast.
