The Rotary Club of Media welcomed two Penncrest High School students, Shaalin Gamble-Sarfo and Mira Kuttymartin, as their students of the month for January.

Shaalin is an eleventh grade student who is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. She won the Duke of Edinburough Award, the Phyllis Kavanaugh Study Abroad scholarship and placed second in the Black History Month Oratorical contest. She was asked to speak at the NAACP and UGF Juneteenth event. Ms. Gamble-Sarfo is vice-president of the Human Relations Club, participated in the Poetry Slam and the children’s theater production “Around the World in Eight Plays.” She is on the Penncrest cross country team and the varsity indoor and outdoor track teams. She enjoys writing, public speaking, painting, crocheting, Outward Bound, the Healthy Kids Running series, and Philadelphia Tree Crew.

Mira Kuttymartin is a Penncrest Senior who is on the National Honor Society as well as the World Language, Social Studies and Math honor societies. She twice received honorable mention in the Chinese Mandarin District contest. She is a gifted athlete playing varsity soccer and lacrosse all four years and was the lacrosse captain her Junior and Senior years. Mira was a second team lacrosse player for the All Central League in 2022 and 2023; first team All-Delco player and a second team All-Philly player in 2023 when the team went to the State Championship finals. She was also an honorable mention on the 2023 All Central League soccer team. Ms. Kuttymartin volunteers at the Media Food Bank, CityTeam Chester, Media Fellowship House, Sterling Rehab and Nursing Home, Historical Fairhill Cemetery cleanup and the Penncrest Athletic lacrosse clinical fall festival. She has committed to the University of Richmond for lacrosse.
